I have protection message flashing on screen

The word protection is flashing on the screen of my Sony mini hi-fi component EC-991. What is this telling me.

This usually indicates that there is a short in the speaker cables so disconnect them and see if it still happens. Check the wires themselves. If there is a bad speaker this can also cause the unit tot go into protection. There may also be an internal problem which would require repair by a technician.
