I have the soundblaster zxr and hd 598's which amp setting is preferable?

I have a normal gain setting (32/300 ohm headphones) and high gain setting (600 ohm). I'm not sure which one I should use or if the high gain will damage my headphones. Does anyone know which one I should choose?

The HD 598 headphones have impedance of only 50 ohms, so you're fine leaving it on the normal gain setting. The high gain setting is for 600 ohm headphones that are extremely hard to drive, typically headphones in the high end.
