I may of broken my microphone

I recently tripped on my headset which in return ended up with my audio being broken. I found that all computer audio(Output) would be used as the input for the microphone. I have tried with different microphones and headsets but the issue still remains.I have restarted the pc but no luck.
My motherboard is the ASUS M5A97 R2.0 I have no sound card, if it's the onboard sound what's broken then could I buy a sound card to resolve this?

Yes you could just get a Sound card and disable the builtin sound in the bios.
