I've got a pair of Sennheiser HD 598's, plugged into an Astro Mixamp Pro, plugged into a Soundblaster Audigy Z sound card - and while they're good headphones, they have their drawbacks.
1. They aren't noise cancelling, so I hear everything around me.
2. They're designed for music, they just don't have the kick I want for gaming.
3. There is no microphone, period.
4. There is no real volume control at my fingertips - which is supplemented by the MixAmp.
So - I'm looking for a good pair of gaming headphones. I realized when I was at Best Buy the other day and tried on a pair of Razer Kraken Pro's - that I'm just totally missing out on what I need for audio in a game versus audio for music and movies.
I've been looking at the Razer BlackShark 2.2 headset, I'd go with another pair of Sennheiser's - but they don't make noise cancelling headphones, and in all honesty they're a bit uncomfortable for long term use.
I also have a Playstation 4, I'd like a pair of headphones that are compatible with that system, and while I can plug the MixAmp pro into it and make any set compatible - I've really been considering perhaps going wireless.
The problem there is that I've never had a chance to listen to some wireless headphones - every Turtle Beach set I've listened to is garbage.
I've been looking at the Astro H50 wireless gaming headset - but I honestly have never heard it first hand, and dropping 300 bucks on a headset I've never actually heard is rough, to say the least.
What do you all recommend? What is going to blow my socks off with regards to gaming audio? I need loud bass, I need something that's Dolby Digital LIve or DTS compatible, and preferably surround sound compatible - but still has the 3.5 MM jacks to be compatible with my MixAmp, rather than simulated surround sound with a USB plugin.
I'm running my MixAmp through an optical line - I hope that's the best choice here, if not I can run it through the direct input jacks on the soundcard.
All in all - there's just too much going on in the audio department for me to know what I'm doing properly.
I need you audiophiles to give me a helping hand here, I just don't have the energy to invest days and days of research into this stuff to know what I should get and do with my current setup to get everything optimal.
Money is no object, but as I said, I'd like to keep it under $200 unless the headset is something miraculous.
