i need help with my laptop

my hp pavilion wont continue to windows start up instead the screen keeps on blinking and shows at the bottom "press escape to start up menu" and when i does, it shows BIOS set up etc,. tried system recovery but all it does is hang,.
Question is will it be repaired by reformatting it?or is there something wrong with its parts,.
plssss do someone help me,.

The recovery should have fixed it if a format would, it's probably a bad hard-drive, I'd start with replacing the drive.
