usually most laptops have a fn key combo to turn on the external display, FN + F5 usually does it.

I need to see what options I have while starting windows 7 in safe mode. My laptop screen is completely broken so I've been using my tv as an external monitor. I keep getting the blue screen of death and am trying to reboot in safe mode however I cannot see anything because nothing displays on my tv. Why?? Please help
