I put to much voltage into my camera will it still work with a battery

Hello,
i got a olimpus camera there was no battery with it,but i used the dc in,but put it to more than 4.8,
it isnt powering up now,will my camera still power up with a battery

You might get away with it -- I repeatedly put 6volts into a 3volt fuji camera, the only clue was it fired the flash every time I powered it up. It survived.
