I tried Samsung DeX on the Galaxy S25 Ultra — and it's a wasted opportunity

Thank you for doing your part to keep Samsung Dex alive and encouraging Samsung to actually do something with it. I sometimes teach at a school and it's fantastic to be able to just carry my phone into class. Plug it in, open my slide show, pull out the Bluetooth S-Pen (s22 ultra) and I'm off.

At home I have a Windows desktop, but my monitor has KVM support. Plug my phone into the monitor and my workstation is all set up there if I want to work on my phone and not fire up my gaming PC for work.

Dex is what keeps me returning to Samsung There are other flagship quality phones that would be cheaper, but because of Dex, I haven't needed to purchase a Chromebook or laptop. I hope in the future they rethink some of these changes

I believe Samsung is actually completely discontinuing Dex with the release of One UI 7, which is why I'm surprised that the S25 Ultra would have the software on there. Here is a link to an article about it: https://true-tech.net/samsung-dex-windows-app-shutting-down/#:~:text=Samsung has chosen a few headline changes, closing down the Samsung DeX Windows app.
Dex could be accessed/used in two ways. #1 was the windows app. You'd download a software package and install in Windows. Plug your phone in to your computer via USB and Dex would run like a VM. I believe that's what they're discontinuing.

Way #2 was to plug your phone into any screen via usb-c or with a usb-c ---> HDMI cable. It would switch to Dex mode and run on the screen completely from the phone's hardware as a stand alone desktop environment. I haven't seen anything that indicates they're yoinking that away.

In fact Google has been rumbling for years about unlocking this capability for al phones. Motorola has a similar feature already. I hope all phones end up doing it...
