I use this trick to hide my Wi-Fi network from everyone — here’s how to do it

Completely useless information. In addition to being a violation of the relevant RFC's it's trivial to find these so called "hidden" SSID's within seconds using the proper tools and techniques. There are several places during handshaking that the SSID MUST be transmitted in the clear (else wireless wouldn't work at all, anywhere) and thus is easily sniffed. Furthermore, any wireless device that maintains strict compliance to the RFC's will refuse to connect to such a hidden network (can't even be made to see it). Methinks that Brian needs to write only about things he actually has knowledge of.

For whomever comes along in the future and reads this article, please please please don't pass this along as "another layer of security", or "protection from hackers".

It is not.
