i want to go FROM 3.5mm audio out TO hdmi input

i want to go from the 3.5mm out of my dot to the hdmi input of my hdtv
all the hdmi inputs to the tv go OUT from the tv as a single optical out to the receiver... that way no matter what the source the receiver is always able to play without any input switching

But u still have to switch TV's HDMI input. Assuming u can "inject" analog audio into HDMI#1, then need to tell TV to switch to HDMI#1 for this audio, then is OK to sit on a blank screen?

Many TVs won't let you access an input without video present. You can try using an analog input with RCA audio input jacks and use the composite video output of one of you other video sources to get the TV to go to the composite input.
Or go direct to the receiver
