AN I5-2500k or a I5 2400 is the way to go if you want to spend that much. A AMD PhenomII x4 965 is another option if you want to overclock to 4.0-4.2ghz but you'll need a cooler. $25 gets you a decent cooler for an I5 or PhenomII.

since this is the laptop section i assume you want a laptop

i5 is the best processor among the ones you mentioned

however for pc gaming gpu is more impotant than the processor

an i5 with a hd 3000 will be far worse than an i3 with a gt540

so please check the gpu otherwise the i5 will be the best

if you are talking about a desktop an i5 2500k will be your best bet
the k in the end represents that it is overclockable
i5 2500 are not overclockable as far asfar as i remember

combine the i5 with a good dgpu

desktop gaming with discreet gaming gfx card:
from better to worse:
sb i5 overclocked > sb i5 > sb i3 > amd a8 overclocked > amd a6 oc > amd a8 stock > amd a6 stock.
desktop gaming with integrated gpu:
amd a8 overclocked (cpu + gpu) > amd a6 oc > amd a8 stock > amd a6 stock > sb i5 overclocked > sb i5 > sb i3
laptop gaming with discreet gaming gfx (no amd dual gfx in specific cases):
sb i5 > sb i3 > amd a8 > amd a6
laptop gaming with igpu:
amd a8 > amd a6 > sb i5 > sb i3

Coming from someone with a 4.5ghz phenom 2 x6 1100t(the best amd processor out), Go with the I5 hands down more power for gaming, I myself find im constantly being bottlenecked by high end games like witcher 2, crysis 2 etc i dont even hit 70% load on my gtx 570 when vsynch is off lol. This has me ordering an LGA 2011 I7 3820

afaik mobile sb i3 and i5 are dual cores. and only one desktop sb i5 has 2 cores.
gta4 is a poorly coded console port that can tax even the best configured pc. it likes cpu cores and ram. if you're going to play gta4 on a laptop, sb i5 with strong discreet gpu or amd a8 + dual graphics. you might have to lower some gfx settings.
i should add that, trinity apus are on the way and they promise to deliver better gpu performance than current llano gpus.

though i3 and i5 are not quads except some desktop i5 like the 2500k
they still perform better than the a6 a8 in raw cpu power due to better ipc in intel current processors

besides most pc games are still dual core optimized except some like gta 4 witcher 2

if you are buying a laptop compare the gpus first

never go for a integrated gpu for gaming inspite of a better processor

for a desktop

get the i5 2500k as it is currently the best processor for gaming due to great performance for the price

and it is a quad core

I am going to upgrade the graphics to AMD 7690m (1 gb) or im getting this one

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/HP+-+15.6%22+Pavilion+Laptop+-+6GB+Memory+-+640GB+Hard+Drive+-+Dark+Umber/4815065.p?id=1218533331581&skuId=4815065

the second one features the 6620g which is an integrated gpu
though quite fast still cannot compare to a 7690m

as far as crossfire is concerned asymmetrical crossfire still has no great advantage
the performance can even be worst
and there is a problem of microstuttering

Out of those two get the first one (with best available CPU) from HP because GTA4 is a very CPU-intensive game.

Though the best deal for you on the HP website would be the $755 Pavilion dv6t with the i5-2430M and the 1GB HD 7690M. That would outstrip the most expensive dv6z by a fair bit in gaming.
