They are within spitting distance from each other, the performance difference will be barely noticeable between the two.

The 4590 gets you 100MHz higher base clock and 300MHz higher peak boost, that's all you get. The 4590 is only worth it if it is within about $10 from the 4460.

Nah, sorry I'm looking to spend under 200$, or else I would get a 6600k. Didn't win that darned NVIDIA contest, so looks lie I actually have to spend money.

I'm still using an i5-3470 (few months shy of four years old) and do not think I am going to have any real reason to replace it within the next 2-3 years still.

If you wanted to take the next meaningful step up beyond the i5-4460/4590, that would be the i5-4690k/6600k overclocked or the i7-4790/6700/Xeon 123x v4/v5.
