I'm looking at building an editing pc in the near future and am gearing mostly towards faster render times. I'm currently running a 2011 Macbook Pro (2.2ghz i7) and from my research it seems the 4930K is the best bang for buck when it comes to price vs performance however I can't seem to find much information on actual render times. Id love to find a really specific test (1 hours prores 422 export for example) I have seen benchmarks but those numbers really don't mean much to me.
If I'm going to build a new machine, based on what i have read, i want to the following:
Intel 6 core processer
Nvidia card for cuda
Edit: Ytyoussef already posted my link, whoops! I'll be quicker next time.
Honestly, if it were me considering a $3000 LGA-2011 rig right now, I'd probably hang on until the X99 chipset, DDR4, and Core i7-59xx's are available. That's expected in September. Rumored to have eight physical cores.
You might find this to be an interesting read: http/www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Adobe-Premiere-Pro-CC-Professional-GPU-Acceleration-502/
It compares four NVIDIA as well as four AMD GPUs and two different ASUS motherboards. http/www.studio1productions.com/Articles/PremiereCS5.htm
I have been editing at a facility lately which just got a dozen or so new Mac Pros, maxed out, so its been hard going back to work on my 2011 Macbook Pro. It the upgrades coming are as good as you guys say, thats great news.
