I am planning to buy a laptop and can't make up my mind , I saw that that i7 was a dual core as well as the i5 . I'll be using my laptop for school work ,for my programming , Linux , and vmware running multiple os. Can someone tell me the difference from the i7 and i5 as they look closely tied

both have hyper-threading, so both have 4 threads. The i7 has slightly faster clock speeds and a MB of cache extra. That in return will cause only a slight increase in performance (15% at most).
IMHO, 7200u is great for an i5, however 7500u is a terrible i7, shouldn't be even called an i7, just marketing. Seriously, it is the same chip with a faster clock, same performance per watt.
