Solved! I'm lost hooking up my surround sound.

Hi All,
I am very new to doing this but I wanted to ask the community.

I have a fairly old receiver with no HDMI inputs. The model is a Sony STR-DE698.

I have a fairly new Samsung television with no digital optical audio out.

We do not have a cable box or anything to save on our monthly bills but we use streaming devices like a FireStick for our TV.

My question is, without a cablebox, the TV not having digital optical, and the receiver not having HDMI, how do I hook up a 7 speaker system so I can listen to our Firestick programming through the receiver...Do I need a HDMI to digital optical converter? If so, which one will support a 7 speaker output?....THANK YOU

I went home and double checked the TV - it does have a digital optical out!! I think this is my solution!!

Oh great news! No problem at all. That is all you need. Just remember that you MAY have to enable the optical digital out, or SPDIF in the audio output settings of the TV.
