Improve performance of Del Latitude D430 laptop?

Hi, I have a Dell Latitude D430 laptop, running Windows 7 Home Premium. I like this laptop for its dimensions and build quality, but, of course, it's slow, with its 1.5ghz CPU and SATA 1.0 & DDR2 motherboard. It already has the maximum supported RAM (2GB). I'm looking for ways to improve its performance. I use it mainly for web browsing and watching streaming movies, both via WIFI. It tends to slow down and hang after 30 minutes or so of web browsing. I then have to restart and then I usually run CCleaner.

I have already checked for viruses and have done the usual list of Windows tweaks to improve performance a little. I wondered about using a different OS. Is there a lightweight, speedy, reliable OS that will run Windows programs? Or perhaps there is a Windows browser that is less resource-hungry than the popular ones? I considered installing a SSD, however, an mSATA SSD would be required plus an mSATA to ZIF adapter. However, considering this laptop only has SATA 1.0, I'm not sure if the speed enhancement would be significant and cost-effective. I don't think there is a motherboard+CPU upgrade for these machines. Am I correct? Thank you for any suggestions...

Solution
Pick up a SSD and replace your HDD with it.

That will somewhat make up for your system's lack of RAM and make it a much more zippy performer overall.

You can clone your existing disk, or reinstall fresh. Your laptop should have a Windows serial associate with it somewhere (look under the battery if removable).

For your purpose of using the computer system you dont need any major upgrades.
What issues are you encountering?
Slow navigation?
Laggy interface?
Low frames per second?

There are many built in features that can help with performance with windows 7.
Firstly, try Disk Defragmenting. Its a built in app your OS provides.

Also try Disk cleanup, it should be avaialble in your OS already.

What antivirus are you using?

Those are very helpful suggestions - thank you! Unfortunately, I don't have the Windows installation disk for the installed OS. I have another Win7 installation disk, but not licensed for that CPU, and already installed on three other machines, so no more allowed. I'm looking forward to trying the Midori browser from the list in your link.

Thank you for the help. The laptop seems laggy, and a session of web browsing gets progrssively more unresponsive. When it becomes totally unresponsive, I restart Windows7, which gives temporary relief. Streaming movies from Amazon Prime and Netflix seem acceptable, but from some other sites, there are lots of very long pauses. I have recently run several antivirus progs: Malwarebytes, AVG, SuperAntiSpyware, iObit and MS Windows Defender. Even with no antivirus running in the background, the issues are still present. I've already tried the disk clean and defrag but saw no improvement.
