improving performance on my dell inspiron m531r laptop

Is there any way I can improve this laptop with upgrades.I'm only looking to do a few things with it.Internet surfing,facebook,and I play a game online called world of tanks.It is extremely slow in all phases.Throwing it in the lake is not an option.Thanks for any help
