Although numerous apps already offer external in-app purchasing, Google is launching a new in-app purchasing structure that stays within the confines of the Android Market, similar to the method used by Apple and RIM.

If you're a new developer, it's convenient to use this system rather than having to setup your own website/service. However, I don't see the benefit to existing developers. I'm sure they're fine NOT giving their cut to Google. Unless Google follows suit with Apple, and forbids apps from using any other billing services once they roll-out their own in-app billing.
