in windows 8.1 how to format hard drive when i can't get past the login page. it won't accept the microsoft account password

my computer won't accept the Microsoft account password even after I changed it several times per instructions. it remains on the login page. how can I format the drive and then reinstall the operating system from my disc

Are you sure you didn't set up a normal password to log in and not the MS account?

Ordinarily, we don't give password help here in case we help someone hack into another person's computer but please give us some more details to decide how far to go with this one.
