A good laptop for the price, from a reliable brand:
http://www.amazon.ca/ASUS-D550MA-DS01-15-6-Inch-Laptop-Black/dp/B00HQZGZ38/

^
Intel Celeron N2815 1.86 gHz (upto 2.13Ghz)
4 GB DDR3
500 GB 5400 rpm Hard Drive
15.6-Inch Screen
Windows 8, 4-hour battery life

This's a great value/money, only one in stock though:

I happen to think the ASUS Transformer Book T100 is a great budget option. It's affordable and fills most of your criteria and has a pretty excellent screen for movie watching. It also doubles as a tablet if you want to disconnect the keyboard. It is fairly small though, at 10 inches but it does make it much more portable for travelling. There's a larger 13 inch version (T300), but that's over your given budget.

My go to source for budget laptops would be Lenovo outlet.

There are a fair number priced at $300 and below.

I look for a unit with minimal ram and hard drive.
It is usually cheaper to upgrade ram yourself.

I always replace the hard drive with a SSD. It speeds up any laptop incredibly, even with the slowest of cpu chips.

I particularly like the Thinkpad versions, they have better keyboards.
