Hi, I am hoping to install a SSD into my Dell Inspiron 15 5559, but I would like to keep the HDD for additional storage if possible. Can I install an SSD and keep my old HDD, or does the SSD physically replace the HDD?

You can keep the HDD if you have the physical room and the extra SATA port available. That's what most everyone does. A good practice is to unplug the SATA cable from the HDD while installing Windows to the SSD. That way the boot sector won't get accidentally written to the HDD. Then plug the HDD back in when done.
