Depends on what you are looking at. Generally, the Core2Duos and now the i7s from Intel are pretty far ahead of the Turions and Turion Ultras from AMD. And that's in both speed and battery life.

However, if you are looking at a system with integrated graphics, AMD's HD3200 is leaps and bounds ahead of Intel's GMA HD4500.
