We have a sharp aquos hdtv, samsung bluray and samsung bluray. The bluray has one hdmi out which goes into the tv. From the tv we have a digital optical cable going into the sound bar as this tv does not have and audio out hdmi. We set this up about two weeks ago tested the hdmi and our roku all working well with video and audio. Since the set up we have only used the roku until last night we went to watch a movie and all that was transmitted was video. When i changed the hdmi to a different input we had video and audio once again. Today while watching the roku hald way through a show the audio went out. Again changed which hdmi input was being used and we instantly had audio and video again. Any ideas what is going on? Just a cable issue or something with one of the components?

Since the problem occurs on both the Bluray and Roku the problem is not them. You say that the Roku plays through the sound bar but if they are connected to the TV with HDMI the TV speakers can product audio (if they are not turned off in the TV audio menu). Try this and see if the audio is intermittent. If so then the TV seems at fault. If it does work fine then you need to look at the optical cable (unlikely to be bad since it is just a plastic tube) and the sound bar.

Does the Roku audio work on the TV speakers all the time? Does the Bluray audio always work on the sound bar? When you say that you changed the HDMI to a different input does this mean that this input worked or if you switched the input to a different one and back to the Roku that audio resumed? Try a different HDMI cable and a different TV input.

The roku plays thru the sound bar not the TV speakers. And I unplugged the hdmi from one input and plufed it into another and put the TV on that input and it would still be playing but I now would have sound. Both roku and bluray were playing sound consistently and now it is intermittent
