Internal Microphone Not Working

I have a headphone with no microphone and when I Skype friends I can hear them but I can't talk to them unless I unplug my headphone . Please help . I run windows 8.1

I just have a headphone with 1 audio jack , there is no microphone on the headphone i just want to use my mic on the laptop while having my headphones in

I know that, I want to know if you have on the laptop two jacks, one for the headset and one for the microphone, I can't see it from where I am and don't know what make and model of laptop you have.

There's only 1 jack on my laptop and that's where I put my headphone

So, I suppose you just have one jack for the headset and microphone, when you plug the headphone you disable the laptop's microphone. If you want to use a headphone, you need a headset with a integrated microphone.

Yeh ok but isnt their any option to just choose it as headphone not mic
