Invalid SSL Certificate / Your connection is not private

Hi, well basically a few days ago i noticed that i wasnt able to purchase anything on steam, i wasnt able to redeem codes or anything because i was getting this error:

Invalid SSL Certificate

The SSL certificate for https/store.steampowered.com/account/store_transactions/ is invalid and the page will not be loaded.


i then tried to buy stuff on the browser version of steam and i got this error:

Your connection is not private

Attackers might be trying to steal your information from store.steampowered.com (for example, passwords, messages, or credit cards). NET::ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID

and then under the 'Advanced' part there is this:

This server could not prove that it is store.steampowered.com; its security certificate is from static.talbots.com. This may be caused by a misconfiguration or an attacker intercepting your connection.


wtf is going on!? i googled talbots and its a clothes store or something, ive never been to the website before apart from today to see what it was.


my browser is google chrome
os: win8.1

i have malwarebytes and avast, im only after doing a scan on malwarebytes and cleared what trojans nd stuff was there, after reboot im still getting this message.

EDIT: ive just tried to do a network scan on avast and its just not working. it gets to 100% then says "we could not finish the scan, please scan again later"

Okay, let's not jump the gun and assume the computer is infected, but I would like us to operate on that premise. Please download TrendMicro's HijackThis ( you can get it here: http/sourceforge.net/projects/hjt/ ), run it, and then post the logs. I also recommend that you download Avira Rescue System ( you can get it here: http/www.avira.com/en/download/product/avira-rescue-system ), burn it to a CD/DVD or install it onto a USB drive, reboot and scan. Post those logs here too, if possible. From there, I/we can assess whether or not there's something unwanted lurking in your system.
