I have seen many forum threads and articles saying that jailbreaking the iPad is illegal, and many other articles that say that it is legal. Is it really legal?

Jailbreaking iPads are illegal but iPhones are not.

Technically, no, it's not legal. There's just little that Apple can actually do about it.

Just be aware that "jailbreaking" will void your warranty so if anything goes wrong....


My brother attempted to root (similar to "jailbreaking") his Amazon Fire tablet... he turned it into a brick.

I don't believe it's illegal, you own the device, and you can do whatever you want with it. It just voids the warranty and apple care I believe. But I doubt you'll be arrested with messing with your own property.
