m looking at this Lenovo laptop, it's a core i7 4th generation, FHD display, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, GeForce840M with 4GB dedicated graphics memory, and costs just $1000.

i like it, but it doesn't have a HDD activity LED.
should I get it? will the lack of the LED be a major problem in future?

I can think of a few situations where i would like the HDD LED--

1>installing Windows, the installer is not responding-- i can check if there's HDD activity.
2>starting/shutting down Windows-- if the startup/shutdown stops responding i can check if there's HDD activity.
3>Windows updates-- if it locks up during an update, i can check if there's disk activity...

But these aren't very common situations..
So what then, shall i get this Lenovo?

Exactly what model Lenovo?
Most I have seen show HDD activity.

Regardless you can always use alt+cntl+del to get into task manager where you can see hard drive activity.

If the laptop does not have a ssd, Plan on installing one for the "C" drive. It is the best performance upgrade ever for a laptop.

Geofelt, thanks for replying.
The model is Lenovo Z50-70 FHD (59-429602).
According to documentation, it has 3 LEDs:
1>Power status.
2>Battery status.
3>Caps Lock.
No LEDs for HDD or WiFi.

ctrl+alt+del won't work while installing Windows, while starting up/shutting down, or while in the middle of an update (when it says "getting Windows ready, do not turn off your PC) will it?

Everyone I talked to recommended a Lenovo over HP or Dell, but this lack of HDD LED is holding me back, I don't care about the WiFi LED, but the HDD LED would really be nice :(

Shall I get this laptop? Without the HDD LED?
