is it possible to text for free on a nokia lumia phone?

My parents won't let me get a phone. I need some information on phones without a sim card. (Like what they can do ie. texting, wifi, etc)

You need a SIM to text. Your SIM is what the phone number is tied to, and you can't send/receive texts without a phone number.

AFAIK, most phones will allow you to use apps, the internet (over WiFi only; no cellular) etc. without a SIM. I don't have experience with Windows Phone, though.
