Is it possible to turn off dedicated graphics in a laptop in order to save battery?

I am considering purchasing a new laptop for when I go to uni in September, specifically this Asus one -

My only concern is the battery life, as it isn't listed anywhere (and in the few user reviews that I could find for it, battery life was described as not being brilliant). I was wondering if there is any way of temporarily turning off the dedicated graphics when I don't require it and instead just use the integrated intel graphics in order to save battery.

Additionally I'd be interested to know (if turning off the dedicated GPU is possible) whether or not it would actually make much difference to battery life, as I assume when the GPU isn't needed (when typing word documents etc.) it's much less of a power draw as it's running at a very low load %.

Thanks in advance!
