Is leaving HDMI/RCA converter powered at all times safe?

My setup is basically: HDMI from computer to converter, RCA from converter to tv. The converter is powered via usb to outlet, but can be unplugged once the signal goes through (if desired). My concern is that leaving the converter powered at all times may eventually damage my video card. Is this a legitimate concern?
