Is There a Way I Can Get 5.1 Support from My Laptop via HDMI to My TV?

I have an HP Pavilion TS 15" laptop, that's all Windows gives me for the model #...

I have an LG BH6720S home theater system (I heard those aren't very popular in this community, especially when compared to actual receivers, etc.)

I also have a Samsung UN50H5203AFXZA Smart TV.

As of right now, I have the laptop hooked up to the TV with an HDMI cable, with audio going from the TV to the receiver via an optical cable. I don't have an optical output on my laptop, nor do I have an external sound card.

Windows 10 is only allowing me to choose stereo sound on my TV as the audio out, so I'm hoping I can get 5.1 somehow without buying anything else. Thanks!

This is the way it's meant to be. Your laptop does not know there is 5.1 sound connected to your TV.
An external USB card with optical out is pretty cheap these days.

Ahh okay, thanks. I think I'm just going to wait until I fix my main PC, I'm not sure if I'll need a sound card so I'll just wait for that.
