Someone told my mom that if we connect the phone to the tv via "lightning digital AV adapter" that it wouldn't use data, but how is that possible? Has that worked for anyone? Does something else work?

Only if the content is on the phone storage.

That adapter has nothing to do with internet. It's just a connection from the iphone to the TV or projector. You still need an actual internet solution.

If providers don't come to your area, it seems wired internet services are out of the question, leaving you to turn to over the air internet, like the AT&T service or maybe a satellite service.
