The answer is YES it can run the latest games in mid to high settings based from the specification of that laptop.
Processor- 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7-5500U
Graphics card - NVIDIA GeForce 940M (2 GB DDR3L dedicated)
Memory - 8 GB DDR3L-1600 SDRAM

Here's one of the latest game there is out there (Metal Gear Solid V) system requirements for it recommended setting.
Processor - Intel Core i7-4790
Graphics card - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 (DirectX 11 graphic card required)

You should be able to run the latest games at med settings and run virtualbox. But beware that hps overheat while gaming.
