I am not even the least bit surprised that companies are no longer going to work on LCD sets. There are a couple of reasons for this, one being that they are about as good now as they can ever be even in theory. The second, more important reason is that they are more complex and complicated to manufacture, consuming more resources, burning more electricity, and all while retaining inherent limitations like weight and a rigidity that prevents the implementation of some interesting new designs.

The future is OLED, and they will continue to improve in brightness and quality as they drop (as they are already doing like a stone) in price.

It makes as much sense for companies to continue to invest in LED TVs as it would make for them to continue to invest in Plasma.

The future isn't OLED but it is other emissive display technologies. The next big thing is MicroLED and after that, the one I'm really looking forward to, QDEL.

While LCD might not see much more advancement in technology LCD based TVs will continue to be made for many more years to target those that can't afford or don't want to spend a lot on a TV.
