JBLDCR600 Receiver to Zenith Z50PJ240 Television

I am a complete A/V noob. Grabbed the receiver and television for free from two different neighbors when they were moving. Speakers are set up correctly for AM/FM, so I know that works, but i can't figure out how to get sound from television. Any suggestions are welcome

TV has digital optical audio output and receiver has optical input so you need a Toslink optical cable. You may have to turn the output on. turn the TV speakers off, and change the audio output type in the TV menu to get it to work. You may also have to assign the optical connection you use to an input on the receiver. Check the manuals for detailed info.
