.jpg opening as .txt

So I have some pictures on my computer that are titled "sIMAG0723.jpg" and the like, however under properties the 'Type of file' is listed as "TXT file (.txt). I am able to open the picture using Windows Live Photo Gallery, however I am unable to send the pictures or transfer them to my cell phone as a picture format, thus others aren't able to view them.

How can I get the files to be .jpg so they open normally like any other picture??

But what is the path for this option in windows XP?Because i did'nt find default program option in start menu in WIN XP.
