jumpy cursor on touchpad with graphic programs

Hello.
I just got a new Dell. It is running windows 8. Whenever I try to use the touchpad in Adobe CS@ or Bryce 7 it jumps all over the place and won't recognize control elements in Bryce. When I try to select anything in illustrator or photoshop it just jumps around and won't work. I though it might be the software but now I don't know. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

try to plug an actual mouse instead and disable the touchpad (fn + f9 usually)

You may be brushing the touchpad accidentally with another part of your hand. But seriously, for those apps, you want a separate mouse.

I tried that and it said that it didn't recognize the usb port or something like that.
