Question Keep laucher app from tiling screens

Is there any way to keep screens from tiling when using a launcher app? Long story, but I re-purposed an old Nexus 5X for my elderly father and installed Big Launcher so it would potentially keep things simple. Is there any way to not have the screens be able to tile with the Square icon button at the bottom of the screen? I'm trying to keep things really simple for him, but he's constantly getting lost/confused when he accidentally gets the screen tiles going and can't find his way back to the Big Launcher home screen.
