Laptop Backlight Issue

OK, so I have this P-6860FX laptop from gateway. First I replaced the backlight inverter board. No go, backlight flashed on then off again. Tried a different cable, same issue. So I switched between a few screens and same thing. Today while I was messing with the function keys on the keyboard to try to get anything to display, every time I hit the FN+Brightness level key the backlight flashes. When I hit brightness+down after that, half the screen lights up and starts fading right from left with the left corner being the dimmest. Tried with a couple different screens. It is only when I try to max the brightness that nothing at all displays, and with lower brightness half the screen remains faded. Tried different screen, cable, and backlight inverter board. Dumbfounds me what could be of the issue. Would like to fix up this laptop and use it for myself.
