Laptop BIOS won't boot from or see primary SSD when HDD is installed

I recently installed an SSD into my Lenovo y510p and installed the old hard drive into a caddy that slid in to the optical bay.

When just the SSD is plugged in it works great, but when I have the HDD connected, the computer only boots from the HDD and the SSD does not show up on the BIOS boot-order menu. I have the latest bios version.

Anyone know what's going on here? I really want the extra storage and I couldn't find any info about this anywhere online.

Hi,

Here are some troubleshooting steps that may help.
- Start by installing the latest BIOS version (V3.08).
- Once installed load in BIOS with just the SSD connected not the old HDD.
- Go to Boot Priority and make sure the SSD is set the first boot device not the DVD drive.
- Once done, save the settings then turn it off and install the HDD caddy back.
- Turn on your laptop again and see if it will load properly.

That was one of the first things I tried, even after making sure that it was first in the boot order, as soon as the HDD caddy is back in it only boots from that, and the SSD disapears from the boot menu
