Question Laptop drawing more power on idle after I disconnect it from my external monitor

Most of the time I use my laptop (lenovo legion y540) plugged in to an external asus monitor. I use the external monitor as my main one and the laptop as my secondary this way. Whenever I disconnect my laptop from the external monitor and use it by itself, I noticed that it has been drawing a lot of power compared to before. Looking at throttlestop, I see the package power at around 12W to 15W at idle. Before it only used to be around .8W to 2W. Now, I'd have to either restart or sign out and sign in again in order to get that low power draw at idle, which is inconvenient. This didn't happen before when I used to plug my external monitor as my secondary monitor and my laptop's screen as the primary one. Any idea as to what's causing this and how this can be fixed? Thanks.
