Hey, I'm new here! So right now I have an Asus G74sx. It works quite wonderfully for editing and coloring RAW video (getting 13fps playback which isn't awful), but I want to upgrade for a few reasons. I would love to work faster of course, I need more USB 3 ports for on set transferring work, and I would love to use my 30 inch Apple cinema display with it. My Asus will not output to 2560x1600 resolution through HDMI, would be great to use that with a new laptop. It would also be great to have 2 storage slots (Boot and mass storage).

Here are the specs of my Asus.
Specs: Windows 8.1 (Windows 7 on other HDD if needed), Nvidia GeForce 560M 3GB RAM, Intel i7 2.20Ghz, 16gb RAM, Samsung 256gb SSD (boot drive), 1tb HDD 7200rpm (Storage), 1920x1080 Screen, 1x USB 3 port.

I'm not even sure what to get. I'm not a huge fan of Apple products after using them for years. I was looking at the Lenovo Y50 and Asus G751, not sure what else. That's all I got. Thanks for your help!

Edit: I also like to game.

Good call! I'm in the US, California. Trying to keep it under $1700.

This is the unit I'd probably go with. 17" screen, like your other unit, 2.5Ghz i7 with 3.5Ghz turbo boost, GTX 970M GPU, 16GB RAM, capable of up to 2560x1440 over HDMI, 2048x1536 over VGA and it has an IPS panel, so viewing angles and color accuracy should be exceptional. The high resolution you're looking for probably can't be had without a unit that has a GTX 980 and either dual port DVI or Displayport, neither of which are available on models under 1700.00. Still, this is a great unit that will run any of your high end applications and will game better than most desktops and consoles.
