Laptop for School

I'm going to boarding school so I won't have my desktop, so I need a laptop that can handle the games for the next 5 years. I need a laptop under $1500. I'll mostly be doing gaming and papers. Thanks! Also, I want Windows 8. Will the 8970 last me for more than 5 years?

It's impossible to buy a laptop to play the newest games on for the next 5 years if you want to run them on higher settings, doesn't matter how much you spend, the tech just won't hold out that long. I already have a desktop with high end equipment. Just needed a laptop to last me a long time for school, because I won't be home because of boarding school. Also, I didn't mean the next 5 years on max graphics; I know that's not possible.

I found out that my dad doesn't want me to get a gaming laptop. So I'm wondering if I should get that laptop that can go from a laptop to a tablet (that thing that can flip) or the laptop and tablet combination (like that starter kit at bestbuy). I guess I should say I want windows 8, touchscreen, bluray, and a long lifespan. Under $1500 too. Thanks!
