I am wanting to do some video editing but I don't want to be tied down on my desktop all the time to do it. I would like a laptop that I can do some editing while I'm out of my house or maybe on the couch. I don't need it to be able to render the videos, I can use my desktop for that. Anyone have any suggestions? I don't have a budget in mind right now so maybe show me different options if you have them.
If you are looking for something relatively inexpensive at has a quad core CPU and a 1080p screen, then consider the following Dell Inspiron 5000 with an 8th generation i5-8250u CPU and 1080p touchscreen for $580. It is the least expensive laptop that has the i5-8250u and a 1080p screen.
The quad core i5-8250u has a base clockspeed of 1.6GHz and can turbo boost up to 3.4GHz if only one core is used and the CPU is not running too hot. When two cores are being stressed, I assume the max turbo boost speed will be 3.2GHz to keep heat down. And if all 4 cores are used the max turbo boost speed will be 3.0GHz.
Alternative, if you want a laptop with a higher base clockspeed, then consider the following MSI laptop which has the quad core i5-7300HQ (2.5GHz / 3.1GHz) CPU for $700. Because it is a gaming laptop it also has a GTX 1050 GPU.
Naturally, there are other laptops available at a higher price point especially if you are looking for a laptop with a very good quality IPS panel screen which generally starts at over $1,200. By "good quality" I mean for people (like graphics artists) who wants an IPS panel that very high color accuracy.
