laptop freezes when pressure is not applied to palmrest

Hi

i have a hp compaq presario v4000 laptop, when i try to boot it up the screen stays black but when i apply pressure to bottom left on the palm rest it boots up, but then later freezes when i let go of pressure, i have tried using a external monitor but same outcome so im pretty sure its not the screen that is at fault.

Any help would be much appreciated

Sounds like the hard drive is loose, that's the only component that's near the palmrest that would cause something like that. You'll have to take off the hard drive cover and make sure all screws are properly tightened.

its not the hardrive as that is on the otherside and the problem continues even when i remove it
