Help! My laptop keyboard has stopped working properly - it was fine then the next day I turned it on and couldn't enter my password. Most (but not all) keys type the number '6'. I didn't spill anything on it or drop it. I've done a system restore, which didn't work. Does anyone have any ideas to try please? I'm not very tech savvy! It's an Acer Aspire ES15 about 2.5 years old. Thanks if you can help!

Solution
So if the USB keyboard works fine, then there is something going on with the attached keyboard. It may need disconnecting and reconnecting (as something is loose) or it could need to be replaced.
NOTE: If you need to type in a password to even get into Windows to do the following, make sure you attached an external keyboard first, to get past the password. Then disconnect the external keyboard and try the following...

1. Uninstall the keyboard driver.
2. Reboot the computer (without reinstalling the driver).
3. When it restarts, it should reinstall the driver on its own.

If this doesn't work, you may wish to try connecting/reconnecting an external keyboard and see if it works fine. If it does, then it could be the keys themselves that are the issue.

You may also want to try updating the Synaptics Driver if the above doesn't help.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I've plugged in a USB keyboard and that works fine. I uninstalled the keyboard driver and updated the synaptics driver as suggested but that didn't work. Any other ideas?
