Hi,
Please do try these troubleshooting steps that may help.
- First is to do a hard reboot, remove the battery and unplug the AC adapter then press and hold the power button for 20 seconds then try it again after it boots up.
- Once the laptop has booted up in the desktop screen, press the Windows key + P at the same time and select between Extended or Duplicate display then press Enter.
- If this will not work, do a clean install of the graphics card driver.
- First, do open Device Manager then uninstall the graphics driver. (AMD or Nvidia)
- Once done, do also check Programs and Features then uninstall anything related to the graphics card.
- Next is to download and install the latest driver from the manufacturer site of the GPU.
AMD:

Nvidia: nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx
- Once the driver has been install, reboot the laptop.
- After the reboot, do test the laptop again and see if it will work using the external monitor.
