I have a laptop that I do not use anymore but it is extremely slow and clogged up with a bunch of nonsense. Im thinking of cleaning it out by completely wiping the hard drive as it will be easier to remove everything unwanted. I have the important stuff backed up so I dont need to worry about losing anything except maybe windows 7. So my question is will wiping the hd be the easiet way of cleaning?

Solution
you could do a copy of the hdd on another drive like if you where using a new drive that might work but some laptop have a proprietary section in bios this is at your risk .
why you dont start by removing unwanted software and do temp and cookies cleaning after this a good defrag should help before the reinstall of the os if you dont have the cd .

I dont have the cd but i do have the os backed up on an external hdd. And i feel like wiping the hd would also speed up the pc more than a defrag would
