Laptop overheating, I upgraded from vista to win7

Hello, I have noticed that ever since I upgraded from vista to 7 my laptop seems louder, working harder. Whenever I play games (like cod modern warfare)It overheats in like 20 min. But whenever I play older games (like cod 2) it still gets really hot. I use a cooling pad but doesn't really seem to help. Any tips suggestions?
