Laptop power input problem

Hello,
I am about to open a laptop to check the power inlet as the computer is not powering up. I know it is a bad connection and I know it is not the power cable itself that is at fault as I have managed to try it with a known working cable. The laptop is an old Acer Aspire 3000 series and purchasing a new laptop is not an option for financial reasons. Could anyone point me in the right directions for any help. I have already got the disassembly instructions from this website but would like more specific details regarding this problem. I realise that some soldering may be neccessary
